Sweet Rivalry is a professional dessert competition and fundraiser that benefits The Arc of Anchorage, a private and local non-profit organization that serves Alaskans who experience intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Culinary teams gather to compete in our VIP plated dessert competition and edible centerpiece competition while event participants enjoy tasty dessert samples, delicious dessert cocktails and watch chefs create sweet treats as they showcase their culinary art skills. In 2017, a dessert cocktail competition was added to the event, with local bartending teams whipping up adult beverages that went to the highest bidder.

The idea for Sweet Rivalry was inspired by the importance of The Arc to provide a wide range of opportunities for individuals with disabilities to participate in our community and learn important life skills to reach their personal goals. Some of the valued persons we serve are enrolled in cooking and baking classes at our Recreation Center. Some of the cooking classes offered by The Arc of Anchorage Recreation Center:

Cooking Around the World

Cooking Basics

Cooking from A to Z

Delightful Desserts

Healthy Snacking

Life Skills

Others receive community living services, where one of their goals might be to create home-cooked meals that expand their personal culinary experience. In addition, The Arc provides employment programs, housing services, health care, behavioral health services, transportation, day habilitation, foster care support, and more. Funds raised at Sweet Rivalry go directly to the programs and services that benefit clients of The Arc of Anchorage.
